The US Government Office of Textiles
and Apparel (OTEXA) has published its apparel US exports data as of July 2021.
Here, David Birnbaum reveals exclusively what it means for the global apparel
industry.
US
data is particularly important not only because the US is the world’s second
largest garment importer but more importantly because the US has virtually no
domestic industry. Indeed, approximately 95% of all US retail garment sales are
derived from garment imports. As a result, there is a direct connection between
imports and total US garment retail sales.
Earlier this month the US Government Office of
Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) published
garment export data as of July 2021.
As we saw in the previous report
the year-to-date (YTD) figure as of June 2021 showed an 11% decline compared
with the same period in 2019. The latest data for YTD July
