Clothing remains the top priority for teenage girls in this spring, with 28 per cent of females listing it as their top wallet priority for spending category, down 200 basis points (bps) vs fall 2022 when female clothing wallet share peaked at 30 per cent, according to a survey by Piper Sandler Companies.
The survey, which polled 5,690 teenagers across 47 US states, also found that spending on clothing increased by 1 per cent among upper-income females year-over-year (YoY) and by 6 per cent YoY among upper income males. Shopping channel preferences shifted to off-price, up 500 bps YoY, and second-hand, up 200 bps YoY.
Nike remained the top brand for all teens in both apparel (33 per cent share) and footwear (61 per cent share), as per the latest Taking Stock With Teens survey by Piper Sandler Companies.
Furthermore, UGG broke into the top 10 favourite footwear brands, ranking at number 7 and rising to number 5 with all female teens. Crocs and Hey Dude also gained ground, ranking number 6 and number 8, respectively, among all teens, both gaining approximately 25 bps of share year-over-year.
The survey also found that On Running and Hoka One One were among the top favourite athletic footwear brands for upper-income teens, ranking at number 5 and number 4, respectively.
Coach remained top among handbag brands with Louis Vuitton coming in at number 2 and Michael Kors dropping to number 3, as per the survey.
Also, 57 per cent of teens cite Amazon as their top favourite e-commerce site; Nike, Shein, Lululemon, and PacSun took spots of number 2-5.
